Apixaban Tablets

Apixaban Tablets

Apixaban Tablets are a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) used for the prevention and treatment of blood clots. The medicine reduces the risk of stroke and systemic embolism by inhibiting a key clotting enzyme in the blood. It offers a predictable anticoagulant effect with no requirement for routine monitoring, providing both safety and convenience for long-term use.

Apixaban is a selective Factor Xa inhibitor that blocks the activity of Factor Xa—an essential enzyme in the coagulation cascade responsible for thrombin generation and clot formation.

The tablet provides rapid onset and consistent anticoagulation, with fewer dietary and drug interactions compared to traditional anticoagulants like warfarin.

Common strengths include 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets for oral administration.

  • Used for prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after hip or knee replacement surgery.
  • Suitable for long-term anticoagulation therapy under medical supervision.
  • Provides effective and stable anticoagulation without the need for INR monitoring.
  • Lower bleeding risk compared to traditional anticoagulants.
  • Rapid onset of action with predictable pharmacokinetics.
  • Convenient oral dosing, improving patient compliance.
