Medroxyprogesterone Tablets contain Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (MPA), a synthetic form of the natural hormone progesterone. It is widely used in gynecology and reproductive health for managing menstrual disorders, providing hormonal therapy, and in some cases, contraception.
Medroxyprogesterone is a progestin medication that acts like the body’s natural progesterone. It works by regulating the growth and shedding of the endometrium (uterine lining) and maintaining a normal menstrual cycle. Depending on dosage and regimen, it can be used alone or in combination with estrogen for various hormonal therapies.
Primary Use: Treatment of irregular menstrual cycles or absence of menstruation (amenorrhea).
Management of abnormal uterine bleeding caused by hormonal imbalance.
Part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in postmenopausal women along with estrogen to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia.
Can be used in higher doses for certain cancers like endometrial or renal carcinoma under medical supervision.
Injectable forms are used for long-term contraception (e.g., Depo-Provera).
